I’ve held off posting any writing prompts until now because I want The Day Job to offer something slightly alternative. But there’s no harm in including the odd one here and there!

So, hopefully, this will give you food for thought. And even if it doesn’t result in a draft, it might plant a seed or shine a new light on a subject you’re keen to tackle. Or any other cliched metaphors that you can think of.

The title of this prompt is ‘The Washing Line’ and it explores how clothing plays such a huge role in forming our identity. And, as our identity morphs over time, this can always be so vividly portrayed through clothing. It’s also an exercise in poetic voice: alternative narratives, and experimenting with the ‘speaker’ of the poem.

Happy writing…
